Forest Regeneration & Thinning
Maximising the regeneration of the timber trees requires timely grass fires, or a change of grazing pressure to allow tree seed to germinate and seedlings to growth. The best young trees can be selected several years later, the unwanted trees thinned out, and allow the fast growing, healthy, straight trees to grow on to harvest. A good balance can be obtained between trees and grass.
Woody Weed Control
Controlling unwanted woody weeds within the forest is a key forest improvement strategy and provides maximum rainfall, nutrients and sunlight to the timber trees and grass. Exotic woody pest plants like Lantana, African box thorn, Chinese celtis, Camphor laurel, Leucaena, Golden rain trees, Cadaghi, Parks and Garden escapees, and invasive vines all reduce the health and productivity of the forest. Removing these is best done sooner rather than later.
Timber & Carbon Assessments
TLC can provide you with a valuation of the standing timber and carbon in your forest. Advice about timber products allows you to manage your forest for the most productive outcome.
Fire Management
The level of fire intensity, the time of year, and how often the area is burnt affects which plants will eventually dominate the area. Fire break maintenance, fuel reduction burning and controlled burns are all needed to manage the forest and avoid loss of property, or death of valuable timber trees.
Vegetation Management Laws
Understanding the latest laws and legislations from the local, state, and federal governments are essential to avoid unknowingly cause damage to protected vegetation or break the law. There are lots of management activities that you are allowed to within your forest. TLC can give you advice with the Exemptions for routine clearing, and the Self-Assessable clearing codes.
Maximise Your Income Per Hectare
Capturing the most amount of sunlight and moisture from a combination of grass and trees will maximise your return per hectare. Efficiently stimulate or control regrowth, and reduce the threat of fire and woody weeds will grow high value timber products in your forest.
